Ithaca Hosts Empire 8 Softball Championship This Weekend

Ithaca College (10-2 league, 23-13 overall) earned the top seed and will host the Empire 8 Softball Championship. The double elimination tournament will be held Friday and Saturday with Sunday as a rain date if needed. The tournament opens with second-seeded and defending conference champion St. John Fisher (9-3, 27-9) facing third-seeded Alfred (7-5, 23-5) at 10 a.m. Friday. The Bombers begin play at noon against fourth-seeded RIT (6-6, 16-16).
The loser of the Alfred-St. John Fisher game will play the loser of the Ithaca-RIT game in the third contest of the day on Friday at 2 p.m. The winners of the first two games will meet in Friday's fourth game at 4 p.m. The entire schedule can be found on the Ithaca Empire 8 Softball Championship page.
Ithaca won the first six conference championships before St. John Fisher broke the streak with back-to-back wins over the Bombers in last year's championship final.
The Bombers swept RIT in early April, but every other combination of doubleheaders involving any of the four tournament teams ended in split.
