Empire 8 Announces Indoor Track and Field Awards

ROCHESTER, NY – Sophomore Marcia McCord of Ithaca College and seniors Mike Hardbarger of Rochester Institute of Technology and Cory Petermann of Ithaca College received end-of-the-year honors after receiving similar accolades after the Empire 8 Indoor Track and Field Championships.
McCord, the Empire 8 Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Meet in this year’s championship, was the unanimous selection as Empire 8 Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. McCord captured the 55 meters and 200 meters at the conference championship and the state championship. She also won the triple jump and long jump at the NYSCTC meet, and won the 400 meters at the ECAC Championships. McCord, who narrowly missed the NCAA finals in the triple jump, placed fifth in the long jump and sixth in the 55 meters at the ECAC competition.
Hardbarger was unanimously named the Empire 8 Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. He was chosen the Empire 8 Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Meet after winning the one mile run in an Empire 8 championship record time and finishing first in the 800-meter run. The NYSCTC Track Athlete of the Meet, Hardbarger placed seventh in the mile run at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Petermann was unanimously selected the Empire 8 Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Year after being named the Empire 8 Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Meet. He won the conference championship in the high jump and finished in the top six in four different events. Petermann set the school record in the pentathlon, winning the NYSCTC championship in the event and finishing 12th at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships.
First-year student-athlete Emma Dewart of conference champion Ithaca College was named the Empire 8 Women’s Indoor Track Field Athlete of the Year and Rookie of the Year. Dewart won the ECAC championship in the pentathlon and finished sixth in the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships. She won the high jump and placed 2nd in the 55-meter hurdles and fourth in the long jump at the Empire 8 championship meet and placed third in the long jump, 4th in the 55 meters, and sixth in the high jump in the state meet.
Freshman Roman Drymalski of RIT was unanimously selected as the Empire 8 Men’s Indoor Track and Field Rookie of the Year. He finished second in the high jump at the NYSCTC meet and in the ECAC meet, in which he posted a season-best leap of 1.99 meters.
