UTICA, NY – Utica College Athletic Director Jim Spartano Thursday named Erin Knight aquatics director.  Knight will assume duties as head coach of the swim and dive programs as well as the women’s water polo team.  She will also oversee the day-to-day operations of the Utica College pool.  She spent the past year as an assistant cross country coach at Utica College.

“Erin has great roots in the local swimming scene and she has proven to be a good fit here after spending this past season with the cross country program,” says Spartano.  “She has excellent knowledge of the sport and an outstanding work ethic.”

Knight is a 2003 graduate of Hamilton College where she earned a bachelor’s degree in geoarcheology. She swam for three seasons with the Continentals and also spent one season on the swim team at the Naval Academy. Her previous coaching experience includes working with the New Hartford Aquatics Swim Club since 2002.  Most recently she was an assistant coach for the New Hartford High School varsity swim team.  She also maintained a close relationship with the Utica College swim team this past winter as a volunteer assistant coach.

“This is an exciting opportunity for me and I look forward to helping these three programs grow in the years to come,” says Knight.  “Swimming has been a passion of mine since I was young and I thank Utica College for giving me the opportunity to work with some great student-athletes.”

Knight is a 1998 graduate of New Hartford High School where she was a standout swimmer.  She currently resides in Utica, NY.

Both the men’s and women’s swim and dive teams closed out their 2008-09 campaigns with 1-9 overall records.  The women’s squad finished 15th at the UNYSCSA Women's Championships, while the men took 14th at the UNYSCSA Men's Championships.  Freshman Janet Rolf broke two school records and qualified for the national “B” cut by posting a time of 1:07.52 in the 100 yard breaststroke.  She shattered the old school record in the 100 yard breast stroke by more than three seconds.
