November 14, 2007
ROCHESTER, NY – The Empire 8 announced its men’s and women’s cross country award winners as voted upon by the conference coaches at the conclusion of the NCAA Division III regionals this past weekend.
The end-of-the-year award winners mirrored the honors at the Empire 8 Cross Country Championships with junior Lindsey Nadolski of Ithaca College being named the Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Year and senior Brendan Epstein of Nazareth College earning the Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Year honor. Both selections were unanimous.
Nadolski, the Runner of the Meet from the women’s championship, was the top conference finisher at the NCAA Regional meet, placing sixth overall. Epstein, the men’s conference championship Runner of the Meet, was the top conference finisher at the NCAA Regionals.
Alissa Kersey of Ithaca was unanimously selected as the women’s Rookie of the Year after earning Rookie of the Meet honors at the conference championship. She was the top women’s rookie finisher at the NCAA Regionals.
Freshman Mitch Boise of Utica College, the men’s Rookie of the Meet at the conference championship, was chosen as the men’s Rookie of the Year. He was the Pioneers’ top freshman finisher in all but one race this season.
Bill Ware was named the Empire 8 Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year and David Warth of RIT was chosen as the Empire 8 Men’s Cross Country Coach of the Year. Ware, who has won the honor every year since 2003, led the Bombers to their fifth consecutive conference title. Warth earned the men’s award for the fourth year in a row as the Tigers captured their fourth straight conference championship.
One member of each team was named that institution’s representative on the 2007 Cross Country Sportsman/Sportswoman of the Year Team. Empire 8 emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete’s experience in conjunction with an institution’s educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen.
