St. John Fisher Dominating After Second Round of Empire 8 Golf Championship September 16, 2007
CLINTON, NY - The St. John Fisher College golf team posted a school-record 280 on day two and currently leads the Empire 8 Conference Golf Championships hosted by Utica College at The Skenandoa Club in Clinton, NY Sunday. The Cardinals shaved 16 strokes off of Saturday’s score of 296 for a two-day total of 576. Brandon Christo of Elmira College is the current individual leader after shooting a one-under 71 Saturday and came back with a three-under 69 today for a combined two-day total of 140. He posted a tournament-best 11 birdies to go along with 20 pars. As a team the Soaring Eagles are 60 shots back and in second place overall with a two-day total of 636. After posting a team score of 325 Saturday, they came back with a school-record 311 today. St. John Fisher’s Scott Harris Jr. and Nick Velasco each shot a two-day total of 143, good for a second place tie in the individual scoring. Harris and Velasco each carded eight birdies. Tom Muto, Jr. (73-72) and Bobby McCartney (73-72) both posted a two-day total of 145 and currently sit in a tie for fourth place. Muto leads the tournament with 26 pars. Fisher took advantage of the short par 5’s, carding eleven under on par 5’s as a team, including four eagles. Stevens Institute of Technology posted a combined 653 and is currently in fourth place in its first-ever Empire 8 Championships. Freshman Abhishek Saksena was the top scorer for the Ducks with a two-day total of 155, good for a seventh place finish. |
