Stevens Announces Student-Athlete Initiative for 2007-08 August 23, 2007
During the 2007-08 academic year, the Stevens Institute of Technology Department of Athletics will be launching a new student-athlete directed initiative entitled “Are You Game Ready?” The purpose of this program is to instill the qualities of preparation, dedication and accountability in all student-athletes at Stevens. What does it take to be Game Ready? Quite simply, that can mean any number of things ranging from performance in the classroom to that in athletic competition. It can also signify a readiness to develop yourself both personally and in your chosen career path. Basically, being Game Ready factors into all avenues of life at Stevens and beyond. Throughout the year, Stevens Athletics will be sponsoring a number of events to promote being Game Ready. These programs will include speakers coming to campus to discuss a wide range of topics, including drug and alcohol abuse, mental preparedness and diversity awareness. In addition, the department will work closely with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee to find creative ways to address issues affecting all student-athletes. Furthermore, Stevens Athletics is going to make a concerted effort to give back to the local community through a number of excellent programs run through each varsity team. For more information on all the community service projects being run through the Athletic Department, please click here. The Stevens Game Ready initiative is a direct reflection of the Institute’s involvement with the NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills Program, which focuses on the five fundamental commitments of academic excellence, athletic excellence, career development, personal development and service. For more information on the CHAMPS/Life Skills Program, please contact Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Information Brian Granata by calling (201) 216-5078 or via email.
