RIT Wins First Empire 8 Women's Outdoor Track and Field Title

ROCHESTER, NY – Rochester Institute of Technology captured its first outdoor conference title at the Empire 8 Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships.  The Tigers set six school records en route to winning the state title at the 2007 New York State Collegiate Track Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by SUNY Brockport.

Junior LaKeisa Perez of RIT broke Empire 8 records in the 100-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash (25.43 seconds).  Her time of 14.38 seconds in the 100-meter event automatically qualified her for the NCAA Division III Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship.

Senior Trisha Sliker of the Tigers won the conference and state title in the 5,000-meter run (18:16.27) and won the Empire 8 title in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:24.09).  Senior Allison Griggs earned conference titles in the shot put (12.69 meters) and the hammer throw (51.23 meters).  Junior Adrienne Gagnier won the Empire 8 and state championship in the 1,500 meters (4:48.08) and senior Danielle Simmons set the conference record in the 800-meter run in 2:16.20.

Sophomore Lauren Koppel of Ithaca College repeated as conference champion in the long jump (4.97 meters), triple jump (10.41 meters), javelin (33.82 meters), and the heptathlon (4,143 points).  She finished second in the high jump and the 100-meter hurdles.  Alison Spivak of the Bombers broke her own Empire 8 record in winning the pole vault (3.20 meters).

First-year student-athlete Jenna Porter of Nazareth College won the 400-meter dash in 59.73 seconds.  Rookie Megan McKee of Alfred University finished second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
