Ithaca, RIT Share Empire 8 Men's Outdoor Track and Field Title

ROCHESTER, NY – Ithaca College and Rochester Institute of Technology shared the Empire 8 Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship title at the meet held in conjunction with the 2007 New York State Collegiate Track Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at SUNY Brockport.  The title was the second in a row for the Tigers and the third in four years for the Bombers.

Junior Stephen Burns of RIT won the Empire 8 and NYSCTC title in the javelin throw with a conference-record toss of 61.88 meters, which also provisionally qualified him for the NCAA Division III Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship.

Six Tigers’ student-athletes won field events with freshman Ryan Rovito (high jump of 1.90 meters) and junior Chris Batdorf (hammer throw of 46.10 meters) setting Empire 8 records.

Sophomore Michael Wodarski of Ithaca earned conference titles in the 110-meter hurdles (15.21 seconds) and the 400-meter hurdles (56.38 seconds).  Junior teammate James Aucoin won Empire 8 titles in the long jump (6.36 meters) and the triple jump (13.00 meters).

Junior Nick Stenuf of Nazareth College won the state and conference titles in the 800-meter run for the second year in a row with a time of 1:53.89.  He set the Empire 8 record and won the NYSCTC title in the 1,500 meters in 3:53.53.

Senior Fontana Fluke of Alfred University captured the Empire 8 and state championship in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 15:16.50.
