Nazareth College, which captured the conference championship last year as the fourth seed in the tournament, is the favorite to capture the Empire 8 Men’s Lacrosse Championship again this season, according to the preseason coaches’ poll. The Golden Flyers received seven first-place votes. Two Empire 8 teams are ranked in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Preseason Poll. Stevens Institute of Technology Director of Athletics Russell Rogers announced that Gene Peluso will take over as the 19th men’s lacrosse coach in the 125-year history of the program. Peluso, who began coaching in 1992 after a decorated playing career at Nazareth College, was the head coach at Rochester Institute of Technology for the past eight seasons. While at RIT he compiled an overall record 88-45. He consistently had his teams in postseason contention and will look to do the same with Stevens as he tries to get the program back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2006. ...Read

Ithaca men’s lacrosse coach Jeff Long has been elected to the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame. The eight-member class of inductees was chosen from a group of 24 finalists and the newest hall of famers will be inducted Nov. 7 in Hunt Valley, Md. Scott Castle, a sophomore midfielder on the Nazareth men's lacrosse team, has been recognized as an honorable mention All-American by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association. Castle appeared regularly on the first midfield line in all of Nazareth's 18 games in 2009. He contributed 33 points on 20 goals and 13 assists.
