The RIT men's lacrosse team (14-5) advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2010 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship with an 11-9 win over Connecticut College (14-3) on Saturday. Rochester Institute of Technology, seeded second in the conference, won its first Empire 8 Men's Lacrosse Championship title since 2006 with a 9-6 win against visiting Ithaca College. Robert Tonnessen stopped 10 shots in goal for the Tigers, while Chris Cherami tallied twice and added an assist. MacRae recorded five caused turnovers and five ground balls, while also scoring once in the final. It was a monumental day for the St. John Fisher College men’s lacrosse team. On Tuesday, the nationally-ranked Cardinals improved to 16-1 overall, setting a new College-record for wins, in their 22-12 win over host Elmira College. Nazareth College, which captured the conference championship last year as the fourth seed in the tournament, is the favorite to capture the Empire 8 Men’s Lacrosse Championship again this season, according to the preseason coaches’ poll. The Golden Flyers received seven first-place votes. Two Empire 8 teams are ranked in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Preseason Poll.
