Dan Pepicelli, St. John Fisher College baseball’s winningest head coach, will resign, effective Friday, October 2nd. Pepicelli will leave Fisher and start next week as Clemson University’s pitching coach. Senior right-handed pitcher Pete MacDaniel was named a second-team all-American by D3baseball.com Wednesday. He was the only Empire 8 player honored and one of four players from the New York Region to be named to the team. MacDaniel is the program’s 25th all-American. MacDaniel compiled an 8-1 record on the season, and did not lose a game until the NCAA playoffs. His ERA was 2.76 and he struck out 52 batters. ...Read More >>
Sophomore catcher Denis Ackermann of the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team earned the American Baseball Coach’s Association/Rawlings Gold Glove Award as a catcher for the 2009 season. Stevens finished 21-20 on the year and received its first-ever appearance into the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Metro Division Championship as the Ducks fell in the Finals to Ramapo College. The St. John Fisher College baseball team came away with a win in the finals of the ECAC Upstate Chasmpionship, as the No. 2 Cardinals defeated No. 3 seed College at Brockport 12-3 at SUNY Fredonia.
Sophomore catcher Leo Fusilli of St. John Fisher College was chosen as Empire 8 Player of the Year and senior Pete MacDaniel of Ithaca College was selected as Empire 8 Pitcher of the Year as the all-conference team was announced. Teagen Barresi of the Cardinals was named the Empire 8 Rookie of the Year. Earlier this summer, the St. John Fisher College baseball team received plenty of national recognition for their act of sportsmanship in conceding the conclusion of the game in an ECAC Upstate Championship play-in game.
