Farrell, who has served as the first Sports Information
Director of the Empire 8 since July 2002, was named Assistant Commissioner in 2007.
From April 2000 through June 2002, Farrell served as the first Assistant Director
for Conference Operations at the NESCAC (New England Small College Athletic Conference).
Prior to joining the NESCAC, Farrell served as the first full-time conference SID for the
UAA (University Athletic Association) for eight years (1992-2000). He also worked in the sports
department of the Rochester (N.Y.) Democrat and Chronicle as a writer/reporter from 1989-1997.
Farrell graduated with a B.S. in Journalism from Syracuse University’s prestigious S.I.
Newhouse School of Public Communications in 1988.
He has served on various committees for a regional branch of Habitat for Humanity and worked
for the organization in 2003 and 2004. He also spent one year assisting the Athletic Director
president of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).
Farrell and his wife have two children.
